How to Verify C2PA Metadata in an Image

Use C2PA Signer to check whether an image includes Content Credentials, whether the file still matches its manifest and how the signing certificate is evaluated.

Steps

Verify an image locally

  1. Install C2PA Signer and open the extension popup.
  2. Use the local file card and choose a supported JPG or PNG image.
  3. Read the status: Trusted, Signed but untrusted, Invalid or No credentials.
  4. Open the report to inspect manifest data, signature validation and certificate-chain status.

What a result can tell you

It can show whether C2PA evidence exists and whether signed data still validates against the image.

What it cannot tell you

It does not decide whether the image is true, fake or AI-generated. It reviews provenance and integrity signals.
