Provenance signals

Provenance signals are pieces of evidence about where media came from, how it was processed and whether signed data still validates.

Definition

C2PA Signer reviews provenance and integrity signals in supported files and page media. It does not infer truth when those signals are missing.

How C2PA Signer uses it

The extension turns technical evidence into clear report fields and the four statuses: Trusted, Signed but untrusted, Invalid and No credentials.

Responsible interpretation

Use this term to describe available evidence. Do not use it as a claim that unsigned or uncredentialed media is false.
